Matejki Street connects Franciszkański Square in the Old Town in Kowary with the City Park. In a green square at that street, there is the largest children's playground in Kowary, where you can spend late mornings and afternoons in a family atmosphere. In the adjacent Poprzeczna Street, there is the 19th century synagogue, today not serving its religious functions. First, before 1939, it was devastated by the Nazi Germans and turned into a sports hall, and today, because of the lack of the Jewish Diaspora in Kowary, it no longer plays any religious role. A pre-war villa estate embedded in greenery – one of the most peaceful and quiet parts of Kowary serving as the asylum from the hustle and bustle of the city – stretches in the area adjacent to the City Park. Matejki Street in Kowary is lined with almost century-old chestnut trees. The old trees with distinctive feathery, palmate leaves bloom every year in May, heralding the inexorable approach of the baccalaureate time. In early autumn, go for chestnuts, which, even without great artistic ability, can be used to make beautiful ornaments.
